According to legend, in 15th-century Japan, a samurai was enjoying his tea when his servant, Genmai, accidentally dropped some rice into his cup. Furious, the samurai executed Genmai, but upon tasting the tea and rice blend, he was thrilled. In honor of his servant, the tea was named "Genmaicha."
