This is a delicious early harvest with a silky texture and not a hint of astringency. Its grassy, floral bouquet, followed by almond and vanilla notes, is extremely refreshing.
Rohini is one of the five villages in the district of Kurseong in Darjeeling (West Bengal). Originally it had more than 146 hectares of tea plants and was considered the biggest garden in Darjeeling before the Indochina War. However, the creation of a military camp, Khaprail, led to almost 80% of the plants being pulled up. The garden was closed for over 30 years, then reopened, with around 100 hectares being planted. Since then the garden continues to be cultivated, tea shrubs are regularly planted in small lots, and the ground is being consolidated. Nearly 100,000 plants are added every year.
